Every year there are hundreds of new players at the Battle of Malta, but there are some for whom poker and the BOM are now inseparable.
We went for our first round through the tables and found some well-known players. Sally Stephens, the world traveling poker playing dame now living in the UK, is in the house.
Two years ago finished second in the BOM High Roller and she’s played poker all over the world since then. Now she’s back to where she had her first major result.
Also playing today are Nadav Lipszyc and Yaron Borenstein – the two players who finished first and second last year. Both are back again today along with Dor Adda and Avihai Benshoham, who also sat on the final table last year.
All of them hail from Israel and it seems like once again we have more 100 Israeli players in the field.
On his 4th(!) bullet already is American Rex Clinkscales. He busted three times yesterday (in the 3rd level, in the 10th level after the dinner break and finally a few spots off the money) and now he invested another 550 Euros.
Let’s hope this still is an investment with a positive ROI. Him and his partner Ting Ho – plus their dog – have come all the way from the US. Ting made it into the money yesterday but decided to give it a new start with a fresh stack today.
Thanks to the option to forfeit your chips, this is now possible.
Also in the field is Konrad Abela (main event runner-up to Louis Cartarius in 2013), Malta’s own poker mama Jackie Cachia, former football pro Anthony Gardner and Italian pro Sergio Castellucio who has $2.3 million in live winnings to his name.
