For the first time in its history, the Battle of Malta left the island. What began as a bold experiment in Šamorín has now become a landmark moment for the brand: the first-ever Battle of Malta edition staged outside Malta has been completed, and it delivered on every level.
A new chapter begins
Card Casino Šamorín hosted the inaugural Battle of Malta Slovakia Edition, and the response from players exceeded expectations. A total of 1,510 entries poured into the Main Event, building a prize pool of €402,840. The numbers alone told a clear story — the BOM name still carries weight, even hundreds of kilometres from its traditional home at Casino Malta.
The tournament attracted a strong mix of local and international players, creating the same cosmopolitan atmosphere that has defined Battle of Malta for years. For many, it was the first chance to experience the brand without travelling to the Mediterranean. For the organisers, it was proof that the concept could travel successfully.
The final table and a new champion
After days of intense play, the field was reduced to the final table and, eventually, to heads-up. Austrian player Mario Klaic and Slovakia’s Henrich Miculik were the last two standing. The pair agreed a deal that locked in €40,000 each, then continued playing for the trophy and an additional €6,900.
Klaic found himself trailing in chips but refused to fold. He mounted a comeback, seized the momentum, and closed out the match to become the first-ever Battle of Malta champion crowned outside Malta. His total prize: €46,900, plus the historic trophy that will always carry the distinction of being the first.
More than a tournament
Beyond the final result, the Slovakia edition demonstrated what Battle of Malta has always aimed to deliver — serious competition wrapped in a welcoming, well-organised festival environment. Dealers, floor staff, media and the entire Card Casino team worked tirelessly to keep the event running smoothly from the opening shuffle to the final hand.
Players responded in kind. The energy on the floor remained high throughout, and the feedback from those who took part underlined that the BOM spirit — competitive yet social, ambitious yet approachable — had successfully crossed borders.
Looking ahead
With 1,510 entries, a prize pool of more than €400,000 and a new champion in Mario Klaic, the first Battle of Malta outside Malta can already be called a success. It opens the door to future international editions while reinforcing the strength of the original festival back home.
Now we head back home for the Battle of Malta Autumn Edition, hosted at Casino Malta from 27th October – 4th November.
Malta, we’re coming home.
One brand. One new country. One champion.
Mario Klaic – Battle of Malta Slovakia Edition Main Event Champion.
A massive thank you to every player, dealer, staff member and everyone at Card Casino Šamorín who helped make this historic first edition possible.
