The field played 9 levels today and went from 570 to just 60. The players who soared to the top in the later levels were most of all Andrew Hills and Mantas himself.
Hills had a great evening with simply getting hit by the deck, while Mantas won a huge pot with aces against kings against ace-queen, and the best hand held. You can find the key situations for both of them further down on this page.
With Sofia Lövgren and Ina Pavlova, two women made day 3 today. It’s the second deep run for Ina, as she already finished 73rd in 2016. Sofia Lövgren doesn’t need any further introduction, she’s representing 888poker, and both parties are going to have a very pleasant evening today.
The day ends with a bang
The last hand of the day dragged on particularly long on one table, and the showdown triggered gasps of shock from the bystanders.
Juan Maniel Crespillo played this hand against Sebastian Benta. The two were in the blinds and Crespillo had position. Unfortunately we only approached the table on the river and the board read 9♣ 6♦ J♥ T♦ 9♦ with 1.6m (40 big blinds) in the middle already.
Benta checked and it took Crespillo not long to move all-in for 700k more. In turn it took Benta considerably longer to come to grips with this bet. After some minutes Benta took his decision and announced “call”. Showdown:
Juan Crespillo: 8♠ 5♠ for a stone cold bluff
Sebastian Benta: T♠ 7♣ for just a pair
Benta’s middle pair was enough and he scooped this 3m pot while Crespillo was the last elimination of the day.
The players are now bagging their chips and will then head out of the Great Hall to get some rest or whatever else helps them to relax.
Play will resume at 1 PM tomorrow, when we will start looking for the finalists to compete for the big prize of €300,000.
There will be a live stream with hole cards and commentary on the Battle of Malta Facebook page running on a 30 min delay, so tune in in the afternoon.
