Former PokerNews presenter Laura Cornelius will be the host of this year’s Battle of Malta which begins at Casino Malta next week. As well as introducing the action in the Eden Arena each day, the British actress will also be conducting interviews with players, chatting to event winners, and reporting on all the fun and excitement at the three Battle of Malta parties.
Although Laura has lived in Malta for more than three years, this will be the first live poker tournament she has worked at on the island. She said: “It will be really fun to be working at a live event on home soil. A lot of local players I know are planning to take part so it will be great to see how they get on. Battle of Malta always has an amazing atmosphere and I’m really thrilled that I will get to be a part of it all this year.”
Poker fans will know Laura best from her frequent appearances on the world poker circuit including video blogging and interviewing for PokerNews as well as PokerStars.TV at European Poker Tour events and Unibet TV. She has also been an anchor for the Sky Poker Show on Sky Sports and a host for the Malta-based Global Poker League.
At Battle of Malta, Laura follows in the footsteps of a trio of celebrated poker presenters. The first Battle of Malta host was Kara Scott who was at the helm for two years. Then it was the turn of American poker player Maria Ho who hosted the event for three years, followed by Belgian presenter Gaëlle Garcia Diaz last year.
Laura started her career as an actress and has previously worked with the likes of Ricky Gervais in the British comedy-drama TV series Derek. She’s also appeared in several films – and will be back on stage this Christmas when she takes part in Ghosts of Christmas Past at the University of Malta’s Valletta campus.
This year’s Battle of Malta is taking place in a brand new venue – the spacious Eden Arena at the InterContinental Hotel – from October 25-30. The Main Event already
