Battle of Malta Record
Breaking news!
A new record has been set in the Main Event of the Battle of Malta! When registration closed, 992 players had taken their seats in Day 1i, creating a new record field size of 6,039 entries in the 2025 Battle of Malta Autumn Edition Main Event at Casino Malta and the Intercontinental Malta.
This brings the prize pool up to a whopping €2,728,970. Payouts will be announced at the start of Day 2, but expect some massive prizes on the line during Wednesday’s live-streamed final table on Day 5.
Meanwhile, Day 1i will continue along with a turbo-charged 20-minute clock until there are 149 players or less remaining. They will join the others that found bags for at least a min-cash during the first eight opening flights for a shortened Day 2 at 8 p.m. This allows Day 2 players to enjoy at least the first hour of the player’s party which is close enough for players to also enjoy during breaks.
Best of luck to all of the players and thank you for setting a new gold standard at the Battle of Malta!
Saturday’s Day 1 G was the biggest ever starting day in the history of the battle of Malta. It began with over 500 players, but this grew to over 900 within the first couple of levels of the flight.
By level 2, the €1.5m guarantee on the event had been met and by the dinner break and by the first break in play there were over 1,300 entrants. During the second session of play, the next milestone was reached when the 1,760th person bought in it, surpassing last year’s 1,759 who participated in the equivalent flight.
By the dinner break, over 1,900 entries had been made and the only question left was whether it would get to 2,000 entries. It fell just short, ending up with a staggering 1,990 buy-ins.
A further 578 played in Day 1h, taking the total number of entries up to 5,047. With just one starting day left, the only record left is last year’s final total of 5,799. Last year, the final starting day had 849 entries and if that number is repeated today, a new overall attendance record will be set!
Kristian Kis Bags Day 1g Chip Lead
The biggest starting day saw 298 of the 1,990 players progress to Day 2. Hungarian Kristian Kis booked the chip lead, on 1,293,000, the second biggest stack so far from the first eight flights. He was on of just three chip millionaires who emerged from the day. In second place on the leaderboard is Victor Azanon, with 1,158,000, followed by Battista Locati on 1,012,000. All three received bonus prizes of €1,500 packages to the Spring 2026 BOM.

BOM Champion Zisis Tops Day 1h
The Battle of Malta’s greatest ever storyline just keeps on giving. Vasileios Zisis almost did the inconceivable this time last year, finishing one place away from going back-to-back, having won the 2024 Spring Edition Main Event.
He arrived in Malta a couple of days ago and cashed in the Mystery Siege yesterday. He played in Day 1g, but failed to progress, so chanced his luck in the half-price Day 1h. Quite remarkably, he emerged from that skirmish as the chip leader, securing 1,194,000 for Day 2, one of the five biggest stacks of the BOM so far. He also ensured he will return in Spring next year, taking down the bonus package for posting the largest stack.
There were 578 entries in the flight, with one other player, Dennis Stemmler, bagging over 1m. Just 42 players made it into Day 2.

Paul Murphy Wins Mystery Siege of Malta
The €450 Mystery Siege of Malta was won by Paul Murphy, after a three-way deal with Srdjan Milicevic and Hans Werge. They left €5,000 to play for after the deal, but it didn’t take long to complete, with Murphy cashing for €48,200, including €16,000 in bounties. Third place finisher Hans Werge actually won the most, having taken more in bounties than Murphy, but did not secure the trophy.

Side Event Winners
The first side event of the day was the €300 NLH MAS, which finished with a three-way chop. Claus Spiekermann took the most in the deal (€5,980), which he made with Pavlos Benakis and Maciej Toma.
Adam Milewski won Saturday’s €330 PLO, which had 133 entries, generating a prize pool of €32,851. Milewski took the title after defeating Jeraint “JJ” Hazan heads-up, scooping the first prize of €8,705. Both his prize money and the €5,920 won by Hazan were greater than the rather lowly €5,000 guarantee which was set for the event.
Vikram Digpal won the Dark Knight, defeating fellow Brit Michael Johnson heads-up to bank the first prize of €9,920. It was the biggest edition of the Dark Knight so far this week, with 315 entries.

After a somewhat surprising long hand-by-hand session (considering how many players were remaining), the bubble has now burst, sending the 299 survivors into Day 2. They’re all guaranteed a minimum cash amount; however, said amount won’t be determined until Day 2 starts.
There were a few interesting spots during the regulated stage of play. The first all-in and call scenario came when Andrea Casula open-shoved 94,000 from the Button with Q♣J♣. He was called by Big Blind player David Calero, who was in the lead with A♦K♦. It was Casula who benefited from the J♦5♥9♣ flop, and the 9♠3♣ runout didn’t see Calero catching up.
The next player at risk was Aleksandar Zuberovski, who moved all in for 39,000 from UTG+2. Domenico Pannullo made it 80,000 from the Lo-jack, and the remaining players all got out of the way. Zuberovski tabled Q♠Q♦ and was ahead against the K♣J♦ of Pannullo, and there were no king or other shenanigans on the 9♣T♦8♦4♣9♠.
Albeit not an all-in situation, there was a big pot brewing over at Table 28. The flop read 9♣4♥8♣ with roughly 30,000 in the middle. Krisztian Kis (UTG+2) had checked it over to Antonio Russello (Lo-jack), who put out a 65,000 bet. Kis made the call, and the dealer revealed the 4♣ on the turn. Another check from Kis prompted a hefty 140,000 bet from Russello, and Kis made the call after perhaps spending two minutes in the tank. On the 8♥ river, it was Kis who took the aggressive path, as he bet 210,000. Russello didn’t take too long before making the call. Kis turned over 6♠4♠ for a turned full house, and a disappointed Russello mucked his hand. While we’re still waiting for confirmation, Kis could be the one who bags the most (1,293,000).
On to the final hand of the day, then. Carmelo Contursi shoved 164,000 from the Hi-jack, and David Lloyd committed his 61,000 stack to a call from the Big Blind. It was a classic coin flip confrontation; Contursi had the pair with T♦T♣, and Lloyd revealed his K♣Q♣ holdings. Lloyd didn’t manage to connect on the 3♠J♠6♣9♥9♦, and as such, he became the unfortunate bubble boy.
That’s a wrap for today’s live coverage; as always, thanks to everyone who’s been tuning in. The full chip counts from Day 1g and 1h will be published as soon as possible. Day 2 starts tomorrow (November 2) at 20:00, and we can’t wait to see the action unfold.

Players are busting at a rapid speed; it’ll only be a matter of minutes before hand-by-hand play commences.
After an initial opening from Robert Dascalescu in the Hi-jack, Nicola Pezzullo moved all in for 70,000 from the Big Blind. Dascalescu snap-called.
Nicola Pezzullo: Q♦Q♠
Robert Dascalescu: 6♠6♥
Dascalescu was trailing, and Pezzullo doubled up to survive as the board ran out A♣4♥3♥3♠T♣. Dascalescu could afford the loss.
Robert Dascalescu: 400,000
Nicola Pezzullo: 152,000

Action folded all the way to Ben Oren, who min-raised to 8,000 from the Button. Ben Miller then moved all in for 101,000 from the Big Blind. Oren, who perhaps played 95,000 in total, made the call after a couple minute’s worth of consideration.
Ben Miller: Q♦J♦
Ben Oren: A♠7♦
Oren had put in great effort to make the correct call. He wasn’t awarded for it, though, as Miller smashed the Q♠8♥5♠7♥J♥ board and sent Oren to the rail.

Tobias Hollerer min-raised to 6,000 from the Hi-jack. Seated in the Big Blind, Frank Koopman was the sole caller.
Koopman check-called a 7,000 bet from Hollerer on the 8♠5♦4♣ flop. Action went check-check on the J♣ turn, and on the T♣ river, Koopman fired a 13,000 bet. Hollerer made the call within seconds.
Frank Koopman: 8♣7♠
Tobias Hollerer: A♠J♦
A better pair for Hollerer, and the pot was awarded to him.

The Day of the Dead is nearly over and there have been countless tournament life deaths today, but none of their relatives visited the graves of the fallen.
Its also my last post of this very long day, which still has a long way to go, but the blog will continue, authored by my esteemed column Christoffer K, until Day 1g completes.

Bartosz Mielczarek opened to 5,500 from UTG+1. Action folded all the way to Martin Mulsow, who moved all in for 24,000 from the Small Blind. Mielczarek didn’t take long before making the call.
Martin Mulsow: A♣Q♣
Bartosz Mielczarek: A♠K♠
“The queen is coming on the river,” Mulsow said. He must possess supernatural powers; the 3♦9♥2♦6♦Q♠ board awarded Mulsow the pot.

I paid Table 76 a visit to see how Mike Alonso (who was the chip leader at the most recent break) was getting along. At the exact moment I got there, he called a 4,500 open from Dimitrios Orfanidis (UTG+1).
Considering Alonso was the Big Blind, he was first to act on the Q♠K♥Q♣ flop. He check-called a 3,500 continuation bet from Orfanidis, and both players then checked the 4♠ turn. Alonso then took the aggressive lead with a 30,000 bet on the K♣ river. Orfanidis sighed heacily, before making the call.
Alonso turned over K♠J♥, and you got the feeling that Orfanidis knew before he called that he was out in deep water.
Mike Alonso: 360,000
Dimitrios Orfanidis: 72,000

Entries: 876/1,990
Seated in the Cut-off, Alex Gleeson opened to 4,000 from the Cut-off. Nikola Filipovic decided to defend his Big Blind.
Filipovic donked 3,000 on the 5♦4♥6♠ flop, and Gleeson made the call. Filipovic continued the aggressive path on the 9♣ turn, and, again, Gleeson decided to stick around.
You’d think Filipovic would slow down on the A♠ river. That was not the case; 27,000 was the bet, and, in the end, Gleeson decided to muck his hand.
Nikola Filipovic: 146,000
Alex Gleeson: 122,000

Registration has just closed in Day 1g of the Battle of Malta Main Event. The final number of entries, subject to verification, is a staggering 1,989! 1,990 (they did find another player after all)
This is a single biggest starting day ever in the battle of Malta’s history and perhaps one of the largest starting days ever in Europe. We’ll have to check the record books and let you know where it stands in the single day rankings.
With Day 1g on dinner break, its time for a quick roundup of everything that’s going on at Casino Malta and the Eden Arena.
Main Event Day 1h has just started its 3rd level, with 293 entries so far. There are still just under 3 hours until late registration closes in this one.
The MAS side event is down to 25 players from a filed of 133 and is approaching the bubble with only 20 getting paid. There’s €7,860 up top for the winner.
The PLO has smashed way past its rather conservative guarantee of €5,000 and registration has just closed, with 122 entries and a final prize pool of €34,770.
The €200 Dark Knight is up to 257 entries, with another hour before reg closes. The High Roller satellite has not started yet, but is due to get going shortly.

I was thrilled to witness the festivites at Table 69. Alessandro Marano opened to 2,300 from UTG+1, and Carmelo Contursi (Hi-jack), Ioannis Kritsotakis (Cut-off), Vincenzo Scarfogliero (Button), Taago Tamm (Small Blind), and Alessio Vichi (Big Blind) all made the call. “What a treat,” I was thinking to myself; six players to the flop meant we were in for some big action.
Action on the 8♦6♠Q♠ flop went check-check-check-check-check-check. Action on the K♣ went check-check-check-check-check-check. Action on the J♦ went check-check-check-check-fold-fold. “Nuts,” Tamm joked as he revealed his J♣5♣ holdings, which indeed were the best hand. I got to say, the hand didn’t live up to my expectations.
The initial reason why I visited this particular table was to greet Krzysztof Chmielowski. The Polack was the Day 1b chip leader during the 2025 Battle of Malta Spring Edition, and between then and now, he’s also managed to score a second-place finish in the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn €1,500 Main Event.

What time is it? It’s that time again! Time to take a look at what’s going on at the Battle of Malta.
Day 1g is well on the way to becoming the biggest Day 1 ever at Battle of Malta. With over three and half hours to go until registration closes, the Main Event has now risen to 1,727 entrants and is just 33 players away from setting a new benchmark.
The MAS side event has risen to 127 entries and late registration is closing soon. The PLO is up to 72 entries now and the Dark Knight is getting ready to start, with over 80 players registered so far.
The morning satellite to the Main Event is still running, but drawing to a close with just four players left fighting for the last of the 80 tickets that were generated by exactly 800 entrants.

British players are having an absolutely fabulous time at the 2026 Autumn Edition of the Battle of Malta and that continued today as Paul Murphy has won the Mystery Siege of Malta, scooping the €31,900 first place prize and the trophy. A deal was done with three players left, with €5,000 left to play for. Murphy took the least in the deal, but went on to scoop the extra and also claimed €16,000 in bounties for a total payday of €47,900 (to be confirmed).
After Hans Werge busted in 3rd place, the trophy was brought out and placed on the table. But no sooner than it had arrived, all the chips went in the middle and it was all over in one hand.
In that final hand, Srdjan moved all-in and Paul Murphy almost beat him into the pot. Murphy held A♣9♣, dominating Srdjan Milicevic’s Q♥9♥. The board ran out 7♥2♦5♣3♣8♥ and that, as they say, was that.
The largest Battle of Malta starting day was the equivalent Day 1g in 2024, when 1,759 entries were made. We are now in the 5th level of the day with still almost five hours until registration closes and there have been 1,532 buy-ins so far. If the rate of entries remains at this pace, last year’s flight record could easily topple.
The Mystery Siege went down to three players soon after the start of play, with the returning Greeks, Pangiotis Petrou and Konstantinos Mimikopoulos eliminated in 4th and 5th places respectively. Some time after their departure, a deal was discussed ands agreed between the three remaining players and they agreed to leave €5,000 still to play for.
Hans Werge has just departed in 3rd place, leaving Srdjan Milicevic and Paul Murphy heads up for the title and the extra €5k.
Saturday is always the craziest day at the Battle of Malta and there are currently over 1,300 players seated across four tournaments. Here’s the first state of play update of the day.

Main Event Day 1g Returns from 1st Break
Unfortunately we were not able to get any chip counts yet, as the floor have been too busy opening neew tables during the break, as more and more players pile into Day 1g, which has now risen to nearly 1,300 entries.
PokerLens is now back up and we are now able to take a look at the results of Friday’s side events.

Level 2: 100/200 (200)
Entries: 870/981
The pace of entries hasn’t slowed, if anything it’s picked up and there have now been 1,100 entries into Day 1g of the Battle of Malta Main Event. They are still on the third level, but are just about to go on the first break of the flight.
Meanwhile, the final table of the mystery siege of Malta is just about to resume with the five remaining players currently emptying their bags, preparing to start playing.
Level 2: 100/200 (200)
Entries: 885/906
A few moments ago, Glenn Brown and Telly Bartolo announced to the Day 1g players in the Eden Arena, that the guarantee of €1.5 million in the main event has been reached, during the second level of the day.
Players are still joining the game at a rapid rate and as I prepare this post, there are 867 players who have entered Day 1g. And by the time I have finished editing and have published this piece it’s likely that the Day 1g population will have grown to over 900.
Meanwhile, downstairs the satellite is still in play, with 263 of the 766 entrants still in. That number will climb higher still, as there’s another 50 minutes until registration closes.
Numbers are now climbing in Day 1g of the Main Event with 750 players now participating by the midpoint of the first level of the day. Last year, this same fight ended up with 1759 entries and whether we match that number today remains to be seen, but there are certainly going to be many more players joining the fight before lead registration closes at the end of Level 10. Today’s satellite is also a big one, with over 700 having entered that as well.

Yesterday Battle of Malta host Glenn Brown visited the ACR booth, supping a limoncello and shooting the breeze with some of online site’s sponsored pros, including Jon Pardy and Jeff Boski. Several of their team are also here at the Battle of Malta this year, including Eboney Kenney and Ana Marquez.
Also here with ACR this week are Storage Wars stars Rene and Casey Nezhoda. Casey will be hosting the €135+€15 ACR Ladies event on Monday.
The Mystery Siege of Malta played until 5am, by which point just five players remained. The overnight chip leader is Hans Werge, on 8.01m, who takes a lead of almost 3m into the final day. These are the chip counts of the famous five, who will resume play today at xpm.
There’s €45,305 up top for the winner and they are all assured a payout of at least €10,980. Details of the big bounty pulls are still incoming.
- Hans Werge – 8.01m
- Srdjan Milicevic – 5.15m
- Paul Stewart – 5.075m
- Panagiotis Petrou – 3.3m
- Konstantinos Mimikopoulos – 2.35m
Play hasn’t even begun and already the Eden Arena is buzzing with anticipation. The staff all came in a little early today for the traditional team photo.
The Main Event is 30 minutes away from the start of Day 1g, which by all accounts is going to take up the vast majority of the 130+ tables in the room.
There will be one final showing of the welcome video before play begins. Gladly, security managed to track down the villain who heisted the trophy during yesterday’s spook-tacular opening ceremony and have now returned it to its rightful place, on top of the wedding cake style display.
The final Main Event satellite has been running for almost 45-minutes now and there are over 500 players taking part so far, chancing their luck at one final opportunity to get into the Main Event for less than the €600 buy-in.
We’re now hoping to resolve the issues with PokerLens, which crashed last night and will update you on the outcome of last night’s events shortly.
A new attendance record has been set for the Mystery Siege of Malta, with a total of 1,313 entries in the €450 Mystery Bounty Event. The final starting flight saw 647 players take their seat for the morning starting final flight of the event, resulting in a total prize pool of over half a million Euros.
Main Event Climbs to over 2,500 Entries
Friday’s Day 1e of the Main Event saw 923 players take their seats, 138 of whom made it through to Day 2. A further 330 entered the evening’s half price flight. With three of the biggest starting days still to come, it remains in the balance as to whether a new participation record will be set at the Battle of Malta Spring Edition.
Unfortunately, a technical issue affecting the tournament cloak occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, which prevents us from publishing the names and chip counts of the survivors from Friday’s Main Event, or the full results of the Mystery Siege and the other tournaments that were still running when the fault occurred.
Further details of Main Event survivors and side event winners will be published as soon as the issues have been resolved.
Dimitrios Amplianitis Wins Second Trophy of the Festival
It’s not even half way through the 2025 Battle of Malta Autumn edition and already we have a contender for the fantasy player of the series title. It’s a fantasy title because there is no such POS race, however if there was one, he’d be the front runner.
Dimitrios Amplianitis won the first outing of the Dark Knight on Wednesday, becoming one of the first recipients of a Mdina Glass warrior trophy. That simply made him hungry for more and on Friday he quenched that thirst, taking down the title in Friday’s White Knight, after a heads up deal with Swiss Adrian Vogt.
It was reported that the deal took place after Dimitrios Amplianitis had won a huge double up to take a massive chip lead, but was so determined to get a second trophy that he offered his opponent an almost 50/50 deal, which one presumes was snap agreed to.
Amplianitis cashed for €3,578.50 in the Dark Knight and added a further €4,260 to his running total for the week in the White Knight. There’s no other versions of the Knight tournaments for him to win next, but we’re pretty sure he will take a stab at acquiring a third trophy.
Friday’s €330 PLO tournament had a 4/5 card round of each format. It was almost as busy as Thursday’s four card PLO offering, with 99 players taking part. This event took place within Casino Malta, in the basement of the hotel and it’s expected that this is where Saturday’s PLO will also be staged.
The Dark Knight also ran, with 214 entries. Due to the technical issue with the tournament clock, we are still awaiting the full results of these events.
The Redtooth Malta 52 also took place on Friday, with Glenn Brown hosting the pub league’s annual overseas jaunt to escape the miserable October UK weather. It was a good natured event, as it always is and was won by Edward Cherrie.
Satellite Battle Light
Thursday’s two satellites had 1,303 entries between them and that seemed big, but Friday was even bigger, with over 1,500 buy-ins. The morning satellite saw 688 players have a breakfast time bash at winning a Main Event, meanwhile the evening version roused a further 820 souls to have a go. In total 140 seats for the Main Event were awarded and Saturday’s final Main Event qualifier at 11am is expected to be the biggest yet!
Saturday’s Schedule at the Battle of Malta
Saturday at Casino Malta will be the single busiest day of the festival. With the Siege of Malta now concluded, the focus of the day will be fully on the Main Event. There’s two further Main Event starting days, at 1pm and 8pm. There are expected to be 900+ in the satellite and maybe a similar number at the start of Day 1g of the Main Event.
There are three other side events scheduled, the sponsored €260+€40 NLH MAS event, the final €300+€30 Omaha event of the festival and another €170+€30 Dark Knight.
The final event of the day, at 9pm, is a €110+€30 satellite into the €1,000+€100 Qui Gioco High Roller
