Day 1c of the Battle of Malta Main Event is now in play in the Eden Arena at the Intercontinental Hotel in St Julians.
When play commenced there were already 114 players in their seats ready to make their opening charges of the day. They are now up to 137 entries, but have some way to go yet to equal the 362 who participated in Day 1a. late registration is open for ten levels.
We’ll be covering this flight extensively in our coverage today, delivering news, hands and more, direct from the tournament floor.
Already spotted in the field today is Malta resident Soner Vanelderen, fresh from his Sviten victory last night. There are quite a few other Maltese locals in the field today, including Julian and Matthew Micallef. They’re unlikely to be related as Micallef is one of the more common names in Malta. In fact, Malta has relatively few surnames compared to most countries and the majority of islands’ 500,000 residents share just 100 different surnames.
The morning satellite is a busy one and late registration is still open, but they are already up to 454 entries. When it finishes, there will be a huge influx of new players joining today’s field.
