It’s time to go down memory lane. We will go back in time to 2019 when the final Battle of Malta was hosted on the island before the pandemic halted the world.
That event attracted a massive field of 4,657 entries to recreate a ginormous prize pool of €2,258,645. Both of these figures might be records that will be broken five years later during the 2024 Battle of Malta Autumn Edition.
Back in 2019, the Main Event created one of the most memorable heads-up situations in poker history with Dutch poker hero Steven van Zadelhoff had Serghi Lisii on the ropes. Lisii made a massive comeback in the heads-up battle lasting around 6 hours and eventually had “The Viking” on the ropes himself. Van Zadelhoff mounted a comeback and the duo agreed to a heads-up deal leaving plenty of money to be played for. Eventually, Lisii completed the upset and won the €247,167 top prize, while “The Viking” collected €217,167 after the conclusion of a heads-up battle this author was commentating with “The Tower” from beginning until the end.
