Level 41: 600,000/1,200,000 (1,200,000)
Entries: 6/5,799
Fifteen minutes into level 41 another player’s participation in the tournament came to an end.
Cosme Martinez raised to 2,400,000 from the button with A♣J♥, and Davide Iannaco quickly pushed all the chips in from the big blind, holding A♠5♥. Martinez made a call and Iannaco was at risk.
The flop of 7♦K♥6♠ missed both players, keeping Martinez in the lead. Turn 2♥ didn’t change anything, and Iannaco needed one of three fives left in the deck for a double up. The river 8♠ provided no help, and Italian was out in sixth place, while Martinez got another pay jump, starting as the final table short stack.
Iannaco is originally from Tuscany, but was one of two Maltese residents to make the final table, receiving significant support on the Malta Poker Fish facebook group. Iannaco sneaked into Day 2 from the final turbo starting day, when he bagged a below average stack, but by the end of Day 3 he was in the top half of the field. He was short stacked throughout much of Day 2 and must be delighted to have departed over €50,000 richer.
