The no phone on the table is being announced by the tournament floor before every event, but why is that so? The answer is that it is the result of new rules that the TDA (Tournament Directors’ Association) brought in recently, which is a measure being taken to improve game security. 

There have been recent advances in technology that make it necessary to protect hole card security by taking this measure. Devices on the table potentially could make the game vulnerable to cheats who could use phone cameras to record card values when dealers are pitching cards. Keep them in your pockets, not next to your stack!
