Michael Ravn during the 2025 Battle of Malta.
During the last level before late registration closes, a contender for “Hand of the Tournament” played out at Table 14.
Alexander Goldin raised to 3,500 from UTG+1. Michael Ravn was seated in the Big Blind and was the only player to make the call.
The flop came 9♣7♥Q♣. Ravn checked, and Goldin bet 5,500. Then, Ravn raised to 13,000. Goldin answered and made it 37,000. Things escalated and Ravn put in a tower of blue 5,000-chips, estimated to a value of 100,000.
Goldin made the call, leaving himself with a mere 4,000 behind; most likely, both players thought they were all in. On the turn A♠, the rest of the chips went in as a formality.
Michael Ravn: Q♠9♠
Alexander Goldin: 9♥9♦
“Did you hit the ace?”, Ravn asked before Goldin had turned over his hand. When he saw it, he sighed in disappointment. But, the poker gods had other plans; the dealer dealt the Q♥ on the river, causing the players at the table to let out a collective “whoah”.
“What a river card”, Ravn determined as he won the absolutely abnormous pot, leaving Goldin with crumbs.
Michael Ravn: 300,000
Alexander Goldin: 3,000
