I strolled by Table 11 to greet an acquaintance of mine, Jannik Bengtsen. Bengtsen finished eleventh in the 2025 Battle of Malta Spring Edition €600 Main Event, and now, he’s back for more.
Bengtsen was only playing 10,000 when I visited him. Shervin Ghassemlou opened to 3,000 from UTG+2, and Emmanouil Zacharakis made the call from the Hi-jack. Bengtsen peeked at his hand, put his lucky Gengar card protector on his cards, and moved all in. Action folded back to Ghassemlou, who made the call, before Zacharakis moved all in. His attempt to isolate himself with Bengtsen was successful, seeing as Ghassemlou folded.
Jannik Bengtsen: K♥Q♠
Emmanouil Zacharakis: A♠T♣
The Gengar brought good luck, as Bengtsen had the best hand after the K♣6♣7♦6♦5♥ runout. Last year, the Dane did an impressive comeback under similar presumptions; time will tell if there’s another deep run coming his way.
For those wondering, Gastly evolves to Haunter at level 25, and Haunter then has to be link-traded with another Gameboy device in order for it to evolve to Gengar. I could talk about Pokémon for days, but from now on, let’s focus on the poker, shall we?
Emmanouil Zacharakis: 163,000
Jannik Bengtsen: 34,000
