Players have come from far and near to compete in the €500,000 guaranteed Battle of Malta €600 Main Event and the plethora of side events, satellites, and non-stop cash games on tap.
The weather is even more gorgeous outside as usual in Malta in early April providing players the perfect poker holiday with sunshine during the day and poker around the clock.
The Main Event boasts five opening flights from April 4-7 with each flight playing down to just 15 percent of the field with the surviving players already in the money. The event is a deep-stacked affair with players starting off with 30,000 in chips good for 300 big blinds for those getting into the battle early on during the first two blind levels. The first three opening flights, including today’s Day 1a boasts 40-minute blind levels with breaks every two hours allowing players to enjoy the action and build up their stacks with the final two opening flights featuring quicker 20-minute blind levels.
Late registration remains open until the dinner break, ensuring that even those who are fashionably late can still join in the thrilling action. With several hundred players expected to grace the tables today, the competition promises to be fierce, with each participant vying for what promises to be a massive prize pool.
Players surviving any of the opening flights will merge to battle for the title for four more days of play from April 7-10 until the latest Battle of Malta Main Event champion is crowned.
Italy’s Gabriele Re is the defending champion after defeating a field of 3,432 entries to win the €209,500 top prize in the 2023 Battle of Malta Autumn Edition. Meanwhile, another Italian in Dario Barone is the defending Battle of Malta Main Event Spring Edition after coming out on top of a 1,992 entry-strong field to win the €156,500 top prize.
Cards are in the air for the Main Event at 1 p.m. when our coverage will officially begin. However, the Battle of Malta already began yesterday with two qualifiers along with another qualifier kicking off this morning at 11 a.m.
