Day 2

Day 2 of the 2024 Battle of Malta Spring Edition €600 Main Event, hosted by Casino Malta has officially ended. The sun on the beautiful island will shine brighter only for 101 out of the 272 players that started the day. All participants who lost all their chips today got a little share out of the record prize pool of €913,349  collected by a total of 1,814 entries. The lucky 101 contestants had the pleasure of bagging their chips one more time and each of them will have to continue the Battle of Malta on Day 3 tomorrow at 13:00.

Vasileios Zisis maneuvered best throughout Day 2 as he tripled his 534,000 chips to 1,605,000 will start Day 3 with the biggest stack of all 101 players. He has just 10,000 chips more than Jakub Bosko and a little more than Modestas Kryzanauskas who completes the podium with his 1,400,000.  All the others share an average stack of 539,000 which would be 36 blinds at the beginning of Day 3.
Both chip leaders Day 1B’s Christopher Grech and Day 1C’s Nicola Ciraolo managed to grow their stacks and will continue to Day 3 while Day 1A leader Vidar Oie busted in 112th.

Il sole della splendida isola brillerà di più solo per 101 dei 272 giocatori che hanno iniziato la giornata. Tutti i partecipanti che hanno perso tutte le loro fiches oggi hanno ottenuto una piccola parte del montepremi record di 913.349 euro raccolto da un totale di 1.814 iscrizioni. I fortunati 101 concorrenti hanno avuto il piacere di imbustare le loro fiches ancora una volta e ognuno di loro dovrà continuare la Battaglia di Malta nel Giorno 3 domani alle 13:00.

Vasileios Zisis ha manovrato al meglio per tutto il Day 2, triplicando le sue 534.000 fiches a 1.605.000 e inizierà il Day 3 con lo stack più grande di tutti i 101 giocatori. Ha solo 10.000 fiches in più di Jakub Bosko e un po’ di più di Modestas Kryzanauskas che completa il podio con i suoi 1.400.000. The FLIP (Fantastic Ladies in Poker) Ladies Event has concluded, with Cheng Peng Tan from Singapore defeating 52 other fantastic ladies to take down the trophy and the €1,960 first prize.  It was an exciting tournament and was live-streamed from start to finish, with the exception of the stage where there were nine players left, as the live-stream table here is set up for eight-handed play.

Cheng Peng, who’s nickname is Champagne took the title after a cautious heads-up encounter with none other than Battle of Malta host Patrisha Rimfire. Patrisha had previously made the final table of the last Ladies Event at the Battle of Malta, but played a stronger game this time around, getting oh so close to her first tournament win, but just coming up short in the final stage of the tournament. 

Despite going into the final as the shortest stack of the last eight, Patrisha held her own and slowly climbed her way up the chip charts. After scoring a double elimination with four players left, she held a 2-1 chip lead over Cheng. But Cheng had he poke gods on her side and was able to regain the lead and eventually took the title when her A♣4♦ v held against Patrisha’s K♥9♣.

Also on the final table and going for her third Battle of Malta Ladies win in as many years was Emma “Emzy” Oliver, but she was unable to complete her hattrick, exiting in 5th.

FLIP (Fantastic Ladies in Poker) Ladies Event si è concluso con la conquista del titolo da parte di Cheng Tan, dopo un torneo entusiasmante che è stato trasmesso in diretta streaming dall’inizio alla fine, con l’eccezione della fase in cui sono rimaste nove giocatrici, dato che il tavolo del live stream è impostato per il gioco a otto mani.
Cheng ha conquistato il titolo dopo un cauto incontro in heads-up con il padrone di casa del Battle of Malta, Patrisha Rimfire. Patrisha aveva già raggiunto il tavolo finale dell’ultimo Battle of Malta, ma questa volta ha giocato una partita più forte, arrivando così vicina alla sua prima vittoria nel torneo, ma non riuscendo a raggiungere la fase finale del torneo.
Nonostante sia arrivata in finale con lo stack più basso tra gli ultimi otto, Patrisha ha tenuto duro e ha scalato lentamente la classifica delle chip. Dopo aver ottenuto una doppia eliminazione con quattro giocatori rimasti, aveva un vantaggio di chip di 2-1 su Cheng. Ma Cheng ha avuto un poke gods dalla sua parte ed è stata in grado di riguadagnare il vantaggio e alla fine ha conquistato il titolo quando il suo Ac4d v ha resistito al Kh9c di Patrisha.
Al tavolo finale c’era anche Emmzy (Emma) Denise Oliver, alla ricerca della sua terza vittoria nel Battle of Malta Ladies in altrettanti anni, ma non è riuscita a completare la sua tripletta, uscendo al quinto posto.

Today’s non-Hold’em offering was a €330 4/5 Card Round of Each event, which was nicely attended with 42 players. It was won by Dane Dmitrij Bogdanov, with Bulgarian Kayolan Kirov finishing runner-up. Tomorrow’s non-Hold’em event is a €300 PLO Knockout event, which means regular bounties, not progressive ones.

Aleix Ortega raised to 24,000 in early position and Massimo Arigo called from the hijack before Jokubas Jancevicius three-bet all-in on the button for 88,000.

Ortega then rejammed with the covering stack and Arigo let his hand go after taking some time to think things through.

Massimo Degiorgi checked on a completed board of 7♥5♣4♠3♣A♠. Mehdi Rebai followed suit before Vitalii Shcherba jammed all-in, covering both of his opponents. Degiorgi quickly folded but Rebai slammed his stack of 277,000 into the pot of 350,000.

Shcherba showed J♣T♣ for a missed flush draw, and Rebai triumphantly tabled 7♠7♦ for a flopped set.

“My first set all day, but it’s a good one,” Rebai concluded as he raked in the pot of nearly one million chips.

Today’s other significant event was the €250 PKO Full Tilt Catania Regressive. It’s a two day event and to clear up the confusion regarding the name, the regressive part refers to the fact that when they come back for Day 2, the blinds get rolled back by three levels when they restart play. Of the 250 players who entered the event, 103 have made it through to Day 2, The chip leader is Clement Lafon on 220,000, who is just 10,000 ahead of Rosolibo Ruvolo in second place, with Ondrej Jakubcik half a click behind in 3rd.

L’altro evento significativo di oggi è stato il €250 PKO Full Tilt Catania Regressive. Chips were flying on table number 8 after an early raise from Nicola Ciraolo and an all-in from the small blind by Vincenzo Teti for his last 20 blinds. The snap call from Ciraolo didn’t look like good news for Teti’s Q♥Q♦ as his opponent turned up with K♥K♠ and had him dominated.

Nothing helped Teti through the 6♦8♣A♠5♣K♣ board and the additional king on the river only added insult to injury. Teti goes out in 106th place, just short of the top 100 in the Main Event.

Michal Janczarski opened from middle position for 24,000 chips and huge stack Vasileios Zisis three-bet to 80,000 in the cutoff. The action folded to Ignas Navickas in the big blind, who jammed all-in for 500,000 chips.

Janczarski took a couple of minutes before finding a fold, while Zisis took even more time before reluctantly following suit.

“I think he [Janczarski] has some of my outs, that’s why I fold this hand,” Zisis explained while the pot was shipped to Navickas.

Vidar Oie who was the chip leader of Day 1A with a 566,000 stack got up from his seat after he shoved roughly 10 blinds with K♥Q♣ from the small blind and got called by Feliks Kreft on the big with A♠9♠.

The T♠4♠T♥ had Oie drawing very thin and he couldn’t find help on 3♦ turn and the 7♥ river. He busts in 112th place claiming his prize of 1,840€.

Last lucky 111 left on Day 2 as the clock shows only 50 minutes left of the last level for the day.

Andre Nesse and Alessio Mastrosimone were left heads-up on a A♣J♥A♥8♣7♦ board on which Nesse was first to act and he checked. Mastrosimone didn’t hesitate to put 500,000 in the middle into a 150,000 pot and make his opponent play for everything on the river.

Nesse had a lot of time to think, but nobody called “time” while Mastrosimone looked a bit tense. Andre did not make the call and his opponent showed a bluff K♥T♥.

Alessio Mastrosimone now has almost 1,500,000 chips and is definitely on the top of the list with the average stack being 480,000.

Nico Frenn and Jianbo Ding were heads-up on a completed board of 2♦J♣4♣A♥J♥. Frenn sat in the big blind and jammed his stack of 140,000 in the middle, around the size of the pot. Ding mulled on his decision for a while, but eventually counted out the chips and made the call.

Frenn showed A♣2♥ for two pair, aces and jacks, while Ding was forced to show his Q♥Q♦ for two pair with queens.

Frenn raked in a double-up on the final hand of the table, as the players were soon dispersed across the field when the table broke.

Cimbolas tanka infinito per sfruttare un money jump da 1,520 euro a 1,840 qualora fosse uscito un player prima di lui. Alla fine decide di chiamare visto che al tavolo hanno chiamato il tempo e le mette tutte in mezzo.

Edas Cimbolas decides for a strong cutoff action for 50,000, a 5bb on the button who decides to 3bet 100,000 to commit the opponent who has just under 50,000 chips behind him.

Cimbolas tanks endlessly to take advantage of a money jump from 1,520 euros to 1,840 if a player leaves before him. In the end he decides to call since they called time at the table and puts them all in the middle.

Three-way to the flop 9♠5♠J♥ after an open by Rytis Kriunas, a call from Jordi Ruiz, and a big blind defend by Yuet to Wong. Both Wong and Kruinas checked and Ruiz bet 23,000 into a 75,000 pot – only Wong called the bet.

The T♦ turn had a lot more action as Wong check-raised the 67,000 bet from his opponent and made it 180,000 which didn’t scare Ruiz yet and he called. The 2♥ river didn’t change the board much and after some thinking, Wong announced he was all-in. As the tournament progresses, the bounties can get really big for some players. PKOs are extremely popular online, but more complicated to run live, but as its such a popular format, its worth the effort.

Strawberries are often associated with Wimbledon, as the UK’s strawberry harvest is at its peak in July, however in Malta where wer have a much warmer climate, the strawberry harvest is in spring and this weekend there is a special strawberry festival in the town of Mgarr, in the north-West of the main island. It takes place once a year and thousands of visitors flock to indulge in strawberries, served in numerous different ways.

As today is that most fruity day of the year in Malta, of course the players at the BOM weren’t going to be left out. Baskets of the most delicious Mgarr strawberries were delivered during the afternoon and given out to the players. Yum yum.

The 2024 Battle of Malta Spring Edition, hosted by Casino Malta, has been a roaring success, with the €500,000 guaranteed prize pool in the €600 Main Event being smashed to bits. Over six starting flights, 1,814 entries were made at the Eden Arena at Intercontinental Malta, creating a prize pool of €913,349, almost double the guarantee.

Of those 1,814 entries, 272 made it through to Day 2, all having secured an as-of-yet unknown min-cash. Leading the pack is Italian player Nicola Ciraolo, who is the only one who managed to put more than 20 starting stacks in his bag. With 621,000 chips to his name, gathered on Day 1c, he will have 155 big blinds to play with at the start of Day 2. 

Ciraolo is not the only big stack that Day 1c, by far the largest starting flight, produced, as Itaco Voto and Tomasz Olszewski complete the podium after bagging big on that same day, with 581,000 and 567,000 respectively. Meanwhile, Day 1b chipleader Christopher Grech (564,000) and Day 1a chipleader Vidar Oie (556,000) round out the top five. Also in the top ten is Salvatore Saracino (483,000), who clinched the chip lead in the last-minute Day 1e flight.

Day 2 will kick off at 7 p.m. local time, and typical for the amazing structure of the BoM Main Event, the blinds will be rolled back to 2,000/4,000 with a 4,000 big blind ante. The length of the levels will be increased to 60 minutes each, and six of them are scheduled to be played, with the day ending around 1:30 a.m. after Level 21: 6,000/12,000 with a 12,000 big blind ante. The survivors will then bag and tag for Day 3, which will start bright and early at 1 p.m. on April 8.

L’edizione primaverile del Battle of Malta 2024, ospitata da Casino Malta, è stata un successo roboante, con un montepremi garantito di 500.000 euro per il Main Event da 600 euro che è stato fatto a pezzi. Nel corso dei sei flight di partenza, sono state effettuate 1.814 iscrizioni all’Eden Arena dell’Intercontinental Malta, creando un montepremi di 913.349 euro, quasi il doppio del garantito.

Di questi 1.814 iscritti, 272 sono passati al Day 2, tutti avendo ottenuto un min-cash ancora sconosciuto. In testa al gruppo c’è il giocatore italiano Nicola Ciraolo, l’unico che è riuscito a mettere in saccoccia più di 20 stack di partenza. Con 621.000 fiches a suo nome, raccolte nel Day 1c, avrà 124 big blinds con cui giocare all’inizio del Day 2.

Ciraolo non è l’unico big stack che il Day 1c, di gran lunga il più grande flight di partenza, ha prodotto: Itaco Voto e Tomasz Olszewski completano il podio dopo aver fatto incetta di big nello stesso giorno, rispettivamente con 581.000 e 567.000. Nel frattempo, il chipleader del Day 1b Christopher Grech (564.000) e il chipleader del Day 1a Vidar Oie (556.000) completano la top five. Tra i primi dieci c’è anche Salvatore Saracino (483.000), che ha conquistato la testa delle chip nell’ultimo minuto del Day 1e.

Il Day 2 prenderà il via alle 19:00 ora locale e, come tipico della sorprendente struttura del Main Event del BoM, i bui saranno riportati a 2.000/4.000 con un ante di 4.000 big blind. La durata dei livelli sarà aumentata a 60 minuti ciascuno e sono previsti sei livelli, con la giornata che si concluderà intorno all’1:30 dopo il livello 21: 6.000/12.000 con 12.000 big blind ante. I sopravvissuti si imbusteranno per il Day 3, che inizierà alle 13:00 dell’8 aprile.
